The Silai & Kadhai School seeks to provide essential skills in sewing and stitching for 25 women from Goa each year, focusing on garment construction and repair. This 25-day training course includes:
Practical Sewing Skills: Training on sewing machines, covering topics like garment construction, measurement, and various stitching techniques.
Machine Assembly and Maintenance: Hands-on training on machine assembly, servicing, and repairs.
Job Opportunities: Establishing a Training cum Production Center for job orders, where women can earn by producing garments and accessories for the local market.
The training center will serve as a dual-purpose facility—a learning space and a production center where certified women can create products for the community, thereby generating income while promoting Atma Nirbhar (self-reliance).
The Silai & Kadhai School provides three types of courses:
Short-Term Course: Teaches basic garment stitching, focusing on everyday wear such as saree blouses and skirts.
Basic Tailoring Course: An extended program covering different garment designs and pattern-making techniques.
Diploma in Tailoring: An 18-month program offering a deep dive into fashion design and tailoring, suitable for those who want to pursue a professional career or start their own tailoring business.
By imparting sewing and stitching skills, this initiative aims to create sustainable and dignified income sources for women. The program not only empowers women to contribute financially to their families but also narrows the gender gap in the local economy. Additionally, as women become economically self-sufficient, they invest their earnings in nutritious food and education for their families, directly contributing to their family’s overall well-being.
The Antrorse Foundation has a carefully structured selection process to ensure the program reaches women who stand to benefit the most. The selection criteria prioritize economically disadvantaged women, particularly those from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households. Preference is given to women who are married, single mothers, physically challenged, or belong to marginalized communities.
The curriculum includes both introductory and advanced sewing skills:
Initial Training: Covers machine assembly, basic stitching, garment fitting, and product-specific construction (e.g., bags, masks).
Refresher Training: A 15-day follow-up program to address technical concerns and refine skills acquired during the initial training.
